General information about this course
Nature of the DWM courses:
- The Diploma in Worship and Music (DWM) is offered by the Senate of Serampore College (University)
- The Programme is designed to inculcate in students the methods of Worship and Music and its importance in Christian Ministry.
- DWM is one-year residential course designed to equip students to serve as effective worship leaders in today’s church.
Duration :
- The duration of DWM is 1 year starting from June to April. The validity of the regulation shall be for 3 years. Colleges can conduct this according to their context by meeting all the in-class teaching requirements of two or four credit hour courses.
Registration for the Course
The academic year for the DWM Diploma course is from June to May.
- Application for registration must be made in the prescribed form obtainable from the Principal or the respective colleges and sent to the Registrar of the Senate of Serampore College together with the registration fee as indicated.
- Attested copies of academic certificates and copies of academic transcripts.
- Attested copy of the school leaving certificate.
- Birth certificate/proof of date of birth in one of the certificates accepted as valid;
- Conduct certificate of character from his/her head of the sponsoring institution/s;
- Any additional information and references that may be considered desirable in support of his/her application;
- The registration fee must be sent by Demand Draft in favour of “Senate of Serampore College” to reach the Registrar on or before the prescribed date.
- Application for registration which reaches the Registrar later than the due date may be received at the discretion of the Registrar, provided it reaches not later than 30th September of the same year, on payment of a late registration free as indicated.
Medium of Study and Examination:
- The medium of study and examination shall be English, and any other language approved by the Senate.
Examination and Evaluation
Examination and evaluation are conducted as per rules and regulations laid down by the Senate.
- Senate exam and College exam will be conducted during October – November and March – April each year.
- Each paper, unless otherwise stated is of three hours’ duration and shall cover the entire syllabus.
- All papers shall be examined out of 100 marks.
- After registration, application for admission to the examination must be made on the appropriate form obtainable from the Registrar and should reach the same on or before the time prescribed by the Senate. The examination fee, as indicated below, should also be sent to the Registrar, Senate of Serampore College on or before the prescribed date.
- A candidate may appear for any number of referred papers in addition to the current papers.
- All the Senate/College examinations for the DWM course shall normally be evaluated by the two examiners.
- Students not having required attendance or not having completed the course work shall not be allowed to sit for the Examination.
- Colleges will follow the norms and procedures of the Senate in conducting and evaluating scripts for the College examinations.
Students can seek revaluation of individual papers following the procedure below:
- An appeal for Revaluation may be made through the College Principal on the prescribed application form within seven working days from the date of announcement of results.
- A payment of Rs.500/- for each paper shall be levied for request for revaluation and Rs.1000/- for revaluation as well as availability of the photocopy of answer scripts.
- The revaluation mark shall be considered final irrespective of consequences.
- Photocopies of the answer script are inconsequential since marks are not indicated on the answer script.
- A candidate should give an undertaking at the time of registration that s/he will abide by all the rules and regulations of the Senate of Serampore College as applicable to the Diploma in Worship and Music (DWM) including the decisions of the Senate and its Academic Council.
Curriculum:
- DWM is a one year long regular programme. It will have 14 courses (36 credit hours) which encompass theory classes and practical training periods. Among these, six courses (16 credits) will be Senate examined and the remaining eight courses (20 credits) will be examined by the colleges.
Eligibility
A candidate at the time of admission to the DWM course shall fulfil any of the following requirements:
- Passed the higher Secondary (Class XII) level examinations.
- Passed the Secondary (Class X) level examinations and completed a two year long theological training.
- Passed the secondary (Class X) and cleared Matured candidate examination of the Senate of Serampore College.
- Passed the B. MISS/B.TH/B.D. Degree of Serampore College or its recognised equivalent (academic)
- A person who hold a Bachelor’s Degree of a University and had completed at least three years of work experience or involvement in some form of Lay Ministry of the Church as determined by the admitting institution and subject to passing the aptitude test.
